Installation & Maintenance

For best results, we recommend laying Palmetto Soft Leaf Buffalo from September to April.

Palmetto Buffalo should be mowed medium to high, any thatch that builds up can be removed by mowing short once a year in October, without exposing the roots. Mowing in Summer would generally be required every 2-3 weeks. Palmetto Buffalo can be left longer without any maintenance or mowing and won’t appear untidy or be invasive compared to other varieties of Buffalo.

Most varieties of buffalo out-compete weeds due to their density, however, clover and some broadleaf weeds do sometimes present problems. We recommend hand-picking any weeds you find in your Buffalo turf by their roots. Broadleaf sprays will generally control clover, bindi and broadleaf weeds. Do not use products containing dicamba. Please ensure the product is safe to use on Buffalos. Before using any chemical, always read the product label for full directions, application, safety directions and guidelines.
